Mazda has a history of pushing boundaries and developing vehicles that enhance the lives of our customers. That is why the Mazda Motor Corporation premiered a new sports car concept model at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show in Hiroshima, Japan earlier in November. The new sports car concept model is the Mazda RX-VISION. The Mazda RX-VISION has a stylish body while holding on to the unique Mazda heritage. It is a rotary sports car concept with the next-generation SKYACTIV-R rotary engine. The rotary engine is a front-engine, rear-wheel drive sports cars concept. A rotary engine produces combustion as it spins, and is more powerful and smooth.

Mazda has been the only carmaker to mass-produce the rotary engine in its vehicles, and rotary engines helped establish Mazda as a global brand. Currently, rotary engines are not on the market due to issues with fuel efficiency, but Mazda is committed to researching a way to make the engine efficient and reliable to provide a unique driving experience.

Along with the new sports car concept unveiled at the Tokyo Motor show, 13 other Mazda models were on display. These included the Mazda KOERU, a crossover concept not yet seen in Japan, the Mazda Roadster and Mazda Roadster NR-A, the Mazda MX-5 equipped with hand-only controls, and the Cosmo Sport, which w as first introduced in 1967.

Mazda’s theme for the Tokyo Motor Show this year was “Accelerate toward our dreams.” The Mazda RX-VISION sports car concept model and the other models on display definitely lived up to this theme.
